What is the purpose of HTTP?

The purpose of HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) is to enable communication between clients and web servers. When a user enters a URL in a web browser, for example, HTTP is the protocol that facilitates the request for data from the web server, and allows the delivery of that data back to the user’s browser.
